British Airways Trunki: Amelia the Aeroplane

We’ve teamed up with Trunki, a brand known for kids’ ride-on suitcases and travel accessories. They have created an adorable British Airways Trunki: Amelia the Aeroplane.

It’s the ultimate travelling companion for globe-trotting tots. Designed to be used as hand baggage, kids can pack Trunki with all their favourite belongings while parents keep them in tow.

The story behind the name Amelia

The name Amelia was chosen by British Airways colleagues via a competition with over 600 entries. Not only is Amelia a popular name in the UK, it’s also a poignant reminder of aviation history. Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic in 1928, followed by a second solo trip in 1932. We’re proud to name the British Airways Aeroplane Trunki after Amelia, one of the most famous female pioneers in aviation.

Where the design came from

The unique ride-on design features a British Airways A380 aircraft and the ‘Skyflyer’ characters, Peggy the Pegasus and Leon the Lion. Skyflyers is our much-loved children's’ brand and last year we gave it a new lease of life. Peggy and Leon hop out of the coat of arms on our logo at every destination, as they love nothing more than exploring new places and meeting new people. When they’re ready to come home, they hitch a ride back on the nearest plane – with their very special British Airways Trunki.

Leon is an adventurer at heart and loves a laugh. Sometimes his adventurous spirit can get him into trouble, but his cheeky sense of humour and charming ways mean he can talk himself out of any situation. Leon loves exploring, trying out new adventure sports and making friends with the locals.

Peggy is inquisitive, curious, and wise, and loves solving challenges. She makes sure to sample the local cuisine and visit the best museums in every place she visits. This means she is really knowledgeable and an expert in all things travel.

The British Airways Trunki has been sustainably produced in the UK through carbon-neutral manufacturing, is packaged in eco-friendly materials, and is fully recyclable.

Family focus

This partnership helps build on our continued focus on family travel. We offer families access to generous baggage allowances and allow you to select your seats for free at the time of booking if you’re travelling with an infant under the age of two.

We’re the only airline with a dedicated family check-in zone, located at London Heathrow Terminal 5, where we’re on hand to help make your journey as easy as possible. We also offer screen-free entertainment for young travellers, with Skyflyer activity packs featuring Peggy and Leon.

Each complimentary pack includes a junior amenity kit with a fun eye mask, paw print socks, crayons and a postcard. As a family, you can travel with the assurance that we provide a seamless and stress-free experience at every stage of your journey.
